GED Myths & Facts

FAQ's:
Q:  What happens if I do not pass a test?
A:  GED will allow you to try again 2 additional times (at a discounted cost of $15/test). If you do not pass the 3rd time, you must wait 60 days to try again.

Myth #1: “A GED Isn’t as Good as a High School Diploma“
Totally false! Just like a high school diploma, the GED shows colleges and employers that you have the knowledge and skills required at a high school level. In fact, 98% of colleges and employers accept the GED. That means almost any college you want to attend or any company you want to work for can be an option!

Myth #2: “If I get my GED I cannot get my High school diploma later”
You can never have too much education and you can still get a high school diploma after completing the GED if you so choose to.

Myth #3: “Math is Impossible”
Many students find Math to be the toughest subject and typically take it as their last test. Don’t worry, we’ve got your back. The GED team has spent years designing tools just for the GED test. You’ll learn exactly what you need to pass math without wasting time. In your student account, discover everything from free study guides to GED Live online classes to GED Flash with thousands of on-the-go practice questions. Nevada County Adult Education also has a GED math support class every Thursday from 9AM-12Pm drop ins welcome.

Myth #4: “ Do I have to take all the test at once”
No you do not have to take all 4 GED tests in one sitting.  You can take them at your own pace and availability of your local test center.

GED Myth #5: Some people are just too old to take the GED
There is an age requirement for the GED, but only if you are too young. You are never too old to return to education!  Age requirements for earning your GED vary by state. Most states require candidates to be at least 18 years old before taking the exam. Visit the GED testing service to find the most current information about testing.

Adults of all ages experience success while completing their GED. The GED program supports any adult looking to achieve their high school equivalency. Passing the GED creates possibilities for jobs or higher education—which is a good thing no matter how old you are.
